Bobby Ross Cates

Mr. Bobby Ross Cates, 92, passed away June 21, 2023.

Bobby was born April 10, 1931, in Durham, NC to the late Lonnie Cates and Jewel Holmes Cates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Ramsey Cates, and grandson, Nicholas Cates.

Bobby proudly served in the United States Army. He graduated from Appalachian State Teacher’s College in Boone, NC. He worked in Quality Control at Liggett Myers. He enjoyed following Duke University sports, gardening, carpentry, and walks along Ellerbee Creek with his beloved dog, Benji. Bobby will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, a provider for his family, a good neighbor, and a loyal friend.

Mr. Cates is survived by his sons, Michael Cates, Steven Cates and daughter in law, Trish; daughter, Rebecca Gretsinger and son in law, Bob; granddaughter, Nicole Briana Cates, and his best friend of 3 years, Charleigh.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Kenny Glenn, Barry Johnson, Jake Johnson, and Buddy Whitesell.

A Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2023, at Hudson Funeral Home with a Funeral Service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Chris Otto. Burial will be held at Maplewood Cemetery.
