Robert Anderson, 81, of Cary, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026. He was born in Orange, New Jersey on May 9, 1944 to the late Norman and Margaret Anderson.
Mr. Anderson graduated in 1962 from Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from LaSalle University in 1967. During high school he felt a calling to serve his country, so he, his twin brother Gary, and best friend Jeff joined the Navy. Upon graduation from LaSalle Bob was ordered to active duty. He proudly served two years on the USS Tallahatchie County (AVB-2) based in Naples, Italy. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged as a Gunner’s Mate, Third Class.
Bob worked his entire career as an Accountant in health care, retiring from Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in 2007. Along with his wife Judi, his greatest love was fishing. He owned a houseboat on the Jersey Shore, spent decades surf fishing, and walking on the beach with his wife collecting sea glass. Whether it was trips to the shore, or vacations to Montana, he always had a fishing pole in his hand. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing with his close friends in a men’s golf league.
“Pop,” as he was affectionately known, enjoyed playing darts and cribbage with anyone up for the challenge, especially his grandkids, who were so very special and dear to him.
Bob was a kind and gentle man who never met a stranger and had a smile that would light up a room. He was a dedicated caregiver to his mother-in-law GG.
His selflessness will continue through his children and grandchildren. Pop will be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, sibling, father, grandfather and a great man who would help anyone. Bob will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known him.
Pop is survived by his loving wife Judi Anderson, an inseparable relationship spanning over 50 years; daughters, Kristen Grove and Jody Frattini; twin brother, Gary Anderson (Ronnie); grandchildren, Cole Grove (Paula), Devon Grove, Hana Frattini, Chris Frattini, Addy Zitofsky and Skylar Zitofsky; niece, Kahili Anderson; sons in law Ken Frattini and Mike Grove and many other loving family members and friends.
Services will be held Saturday February 7th, at Hudson Funeral Home 211 S. Miami Blvd Durham, NC. Visitation will be at 12:30pm followed by a service at 2pm. A Repast will be at Tobacco Road, 280 S. Mangum St. Durham, NC.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary, Cole, Devon, Chris, Kenny and Mike.
