Betty Matthews

Mrs. Betty Joyce Lane Matthews, 83, died July 29, 2023 at TerraBella in Hillsborough, North Carolina after an extended period of failing health.  She was born November 7, 1939, in Gapway, South Carolina, to the late Berry Lane and Lois Price Lane.  She worked with Duke Hospital for many years before retiring.  She enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Matthews; a brother, Curtis Lane and a sister, Audrey Simpson.

Betty is survived by two sons, Ervin (Pete) Lane and Pat Rogers Lane of Snow Camp, North Carolina and Thomas (Tommy) Clayton of Newton, North Carolina.  She has five Grandchildren, Tammy and Scott Strouth, Jamie and Angie Rogers, Becky Rogers Mullins, Jacob Clayton and Berry Clayton; eight Great-Grandchildren; and ten Great-Great-Grandchildren.  She has three brothers Glenn Lane of Fayetteville, North Carolina, James David Lane of Fork, South Carolina and Larry Lane of Tiger, Georgia; four sisters, Phyllis Newman of Summerton, South Carolina, Jean Ivey of Manning, South Carolina, Linda Palmer of Benbrook, Texas and Ernestine Adams of Darlington, South Carolina.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
