Bernice Griffin

Bernice Griffin, a devout Christian at the age of 94, has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, October 21, 2023.  She was born April 9, 1929 in Durham, North Carolina to the late Gordon and Lottie Copeland.

Mrs. Griffin was a longtime and faithful member of Plainview Baptist Church where she taught Childrens’ Sunday School Classes for many years. Bernice enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her beautiful flowers.  She also liked to collect rooster figurines.  Bernice loved to cook for her family and friends. Many of her siblings, nieces and nephews called her by the nickname “Bunch”. 

Bernice was a sweet woman who was always kind and never got angry.  Her caring ways and loving demeanor will always be missed.  She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and “Granny” and a great friend to many.  She will be deeply missed by the many hearts she touched over her wonderful 94 years.

Mrs. Griffin is preceded in death by her brother, Buck Copeland; sisters, Margaret Luquire, Elizabeth Lowe, Ruth Brooks, Edna Lilly and Wilma Copeland.

Bernice is survived by her loving husband Edwin “Doyle” Griffin; son, Stuart Griffin (Ruby); brothers, Gerald Copeland and Wayne Copeland (Barbara); sisters, Vivian Maynard and Eleanor Weatherly (Bob); grandchildren, Erika Byrd (Jason) and Andrew Griffin (Sarah); great grandchildren, Cole Byrd (Amber), Cade Byrd, Carleigh Franks (Jase), Copeland Griffin and Barrett Griffin and numerous other loving family members, church members and friends. 

The family would like to give a Special Thank You to Bernice’s Caregivers, Angela, Susan, Kristin, Lori, Liza and Kim for their compassionate and loving care.

A Private Service for the family will be held at a later date.
