Barbara Atkinson McDowell Hamilton

DURHAM- Mrs. Barbara Atkinson McDowell Hamilton, 84, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020.
Mrs. Hamilton was born May 18, 1935 to the late Cecil and Adele Atkinson in Durham, NC. She was a trust management assistant with Wachovia Bank and Trust in downtown Durham for over 25 years where she retired. Mrs. Hamilton enjoyed bowling and reading. She was a member of several book clubs. She loved to cook, bake and shop. She was very artistic and creative with art and crocheting. She was a cat lover. Mrs. Hamilton will be remembered as adventurous, strong willed, very outgoing, loving and understanding and was always very comforting to her family and friends and she was a really good Gramma.
Mrs. Hamilton is preceded in death by her son, Douglas McDowell; parents, Cecil and Adele Atkinson; brother, Cecil Belton Atkinson.
Mrs. Hamilton is survived by her husband of 38 years, Deral Hamilton; son, Patrick McDowell and wife, Peggy; granddaughter, Billie McDowell.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Harry Brown. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
