Barbara Hawkins Furlough

Mrs. Barbara Hawkins Furlough, 78, of Durham, left this earth and entered into the presence of her Savior Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Duke Regional Hospital.

Barbara was born August 14, 1945, in Halifax County, NC to the late Clifford and Mary Lucas Hawkins.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Birdsong.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Wilson Furlough; son, Robert “Scott” Furlough of Durham NC; daughters, Cathy Keeter (Alex) of Suffolk, VA, Shannah Randall (Ken) of Frisco NC, Stacie Yarborough (David) Of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Megan Stewart (Chris), Matthew Belch, Chelsea Nierman (Keith), Falyn Fentress (Pat), Lauren James (Dustin), Taylor Sonnier, Madi Randall, Kayla Yarborough, Katie Yarborough and Bobby Yarborough; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Tucker, Grady, Hudson, Brenleigh, Rilee and Lennyx.

Barbara was retired from Verizon after 32 years of service.

“B” as she was lovingly known to her family was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many, both near and far. She loved holidays when her house was full of family and would work for days to make sure everyone had their personal favorite thing to eat when we gathered around the table. She also loved her many friends at Fellowship Baptist Church where she worshipped faithfully for many years.

While we mourn her physical absence we rejoice that she has now heard those words we all long to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant….Enter into the joy of your Lord”.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, 11 am at Fellowship Baptist Church with visitation from 10 - 11 am at the church.

Officiating will be Dr. Rick Finley.
