Arvis Smith

Arvis Smith, 90, of Durham, North Carolina passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was born in Willow Springs, NC on December 13, 1935, to the late Lester and Lilly Mae Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son Arvis “Lee” Smith.

Mr. Smith was a hardworking man. He spent his entire working career being a Heavy Equipment Operator, until he retired from Nello Teer Construction. After his retirement, he enjoyed collecting and hauling scrap metal for extra money.

Arvis enjoyed going to the Casino, playing poker and blackjack and you could also find him shooting a game of pool. Most of all he loved being with his family, making his well-known stewed beef or making a big country breakfast.

Mr. Smith will be remembered as a fantastic provider, hard worker and a father who made sure his sons had their education. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha Smith; son, Douglas Smith; brother, Billy Ray Smith; sister, Lessie Mae “Deana” Boswell; grandson, Jacob Smith and other loving family members and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, NC. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:00 P.M.
