Archie “Wallace” Dryden

Mr. Archie “Wallace” Dryden, 91, passed away on March 20, 2022.

Wallace was born February 27, 1931 in New Church, VA, a son of the late Archie N. and Mildred Fulcher Dryden. Mr. Dryden lived in Durham most of his life. He was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed being with his church family. Wallace graduated from Ferrum Junior College and then attended High Point College, where he graduated with honors and received his Bachelors of Arts. He also attended Duke Divinity School. Wallace worked 22 years with Williamson Well Drilling. After retirement, he worked for Bryant Driving School, where he taught Drivers Ed. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and playing cards. Wallace will be remembered as a loving husband, father, step-father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dryden was preceded in death by his first wife and loving mother of his children, Jean Williamson Dryden; and was also preceded in death by his second wife, Frances Jones Dryden.

Mr. Dryden is survived by his daughters, Kathryn White and Joy Cummings (Steve); step-children, Michael Griffin and Lisa O’Steen; sister, Patricia Dryden; grandchildren, Robin Dillehay, Michael White, Heather Cummings, Steven Cummings, and Brandon Cummings; and great-granddaughter, Shannon Lipke.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Michael White, Steve Cummings, Steven Cummings, Brandon Cummings, Bryan Dillehay, and Adam Martin.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church with a funeral service following at 12:30 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Suzanne Cobb. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
