Angela Garrett

Angela Garrett, 58, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. She was born on December 9, 1966, at Watts Hospital in Durham, NC, to Martha Mitchell and her father, Joseph Mitchell, Sr., who preceded her in death.

Angela was a woman who touched everyone she met with her warmth, kindness, and strength. She found her soulmate in William Garrett, Jr., and the two were married on September 30, 1983, in a ceremony at The Mitchell Home. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith and joy. Angela worked at Duke Hospital for over 17 years, starting in the Breast Cancer Center and later in the Psychiatric Center. She was known for her dedication, compassion and ability to make those around her feel heard and cared for.

Angela’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Promised Land Community Baptist Church for over 20 years, where she not only taught Sunday School but also played a key role in managing the church’s Audio/Video ministry. Angela’s faith was quiet but fierce and she embodied the love of Christ in every interaction. Her church family was just as important to her as her biological one and she was a true pillar in both communities.

She was also the heart of her family. Angela’s children, Brandon Garrett, April Goss, and Crystal Emmons, were the center of her world, and nothing made her prouder than her three grandchildren, Bryce, Hailey, and Cameron. Family vacations, camping trips and simple moments of laughter around the dinner table were where Angela truly shone. She was a mother who gave her all and a grandmother who poured every bit of her love into her grandkids, making sure they knew they were cherished.

Angela was a woman of quiet strength, a true glue that held everyone together. Whether at work, in the church or at home, she was always there—calm, steady and full of love. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her and she will be deeply missed.

Angela leaves behind her loving husband, William Garrett, Jr., her children Brandon Garrett (Olivia), April Goss (Chris), and Crystal Emmons (Bryant), her brothers Joe Mitchell (Michelle) and Thomas Mitchell (Pam), and her beloved grandchildren Bryce Emmons, Hailey Emmons, and Cameron Goss. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and countless friends who were touched by her generous spirit.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Angela’s life will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. Pastor Mike Underwood will officiate.

The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 5:00 P.M.
