Obituary

Andrew Ayim Mireku, 91, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Durham, North Carolina. He was born January 10, 1935, in Nkwatia, Ghana, to the late Moses K. Mireku and Mina A. Afanso.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Agnes Afua Dufie, Elizabeth Akosua Dankyiraa, Kwadwo Twerefoo Mireku, and Augustina Abenaa Asieduaa. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Connie A. Mireku, their five children, four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew was a gifted student who earned engineering degrees from Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University. After marrying Connie in 1966, they lived in Ghana and then moved to Peekskill, New York, where they raised their family before eventually settling in North Carolina.

His life changed when he began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was baptized in 1971 and faithfully served as a congregation elder from 1977 until his death. He also contributed his engineering skills to construction projects supporting worldwide Bible education and enjoyed many years as a full-time volunteer to help people learn about the Bible after his retirement.

Andrew will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose deepest priority was his faith and whose life reflected a love of learning and helping others.
