Andrea Lee Marcus was born on March 11, 1942 in Auburn, New York to Mildred and John Namisnack. Andrea’s father John passed away when she was an infant and she was raised in Yonkers, New York.
She graduated Yonkers High School and Hunter College. Upon graduation, Andrea became a teacher in the Head Start Program, then in its infancy. She met her husband Robert Marcus in New York City. They were married on January 22, 1966 and resided in the Riverdale Section of the Bronx. In 1967, they relocated to Northern Virginia when Robert was transferred to the GSA’s federal headquarters. Andrea pursued her career in Fairfax County public schools, teaching elementary school, high school, special education and English as a Second language. She earned her Master’s Degree from George Mason University. She was a devoted wife and mother to Jill and Kenneth Marcus. She loved dancing, camping, the theater and reading.
She gained many enduring friendships over the years, both in Virginia and in North Carolina. Andrea was a member of Judea Reform Congregation and treasured the close friendships within her Havurah.
She passed away peacefully age 83, at the Hillcrest Convalescent Center on July 2, 2025 She leaves her husband Robert, daughter Jill, son Kenneth, daughter-in-law Kirsta Millar and granddaughters Skylar and Grace Marcus along with many close relatives.

A graveside service will be held Sunday July 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery. Officiating will be Rabbi Hannah Bender.
