Alma Ann Strickland

Alma Ann Strickland, 85, of Durham, North Carolina peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. She was born March 23, 1940 in Durham, NC to the late Oscar and Dorothy Walker.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her loving husband of over 65 years, William Strickland; brothers, Johnnie and Charles Walker and grandson, Chad Hyde.

Mrs. Strickland loved life as a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family, children and the kids in the neighborhood. Alma was a wonderful cook, and everyone knew where they could get a delicious meal and genuine comfort from her. She made the best biscuits around.

Alma also worked as bookkeeper for Strickland Carpet Cleaners for many years, but being a homemaker was the most important thing to her.

Mrs. Strickland enjoyed working in the garden, tending to her plants and camping. She especially looked forward to trips to Longwood at Kerr Lake.

Alma is survived by her daughters, Sharron S. Parker (fiancé Larry Sherlin) and Tamra Webster (Ken); son, Quincy Strickland (Angela); brother, Tom Walker; sister, Bunny Ellis (Doug); grandchildren, Melissa Westbrook, William Parker (Sam Owens), Lorena Hyde and Wayne Strickland; great grandchildren, Mia Parker, Douglas Westbrook, Zach Hyde, Daisy Hyde and Izzy Hyde and other loving family members and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 3712 Cheek Rd., Durham, NC. Minister Patricia Hayes will officiate.

The family will receive friends that morning prior to the service from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Hudson Funeral Home, 211 S. Miami Blvd., Durham, NC.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Charlie Pollock, Shane Eubanks, Larry Sherlin, Ray Hayes, Ken Webster and Zach Hyde.

Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made in Alma’s memory to Duke Hospice.
