Allen Whitfield Powell

DURHAM- Mr. Allen Whitfield Powell, 85, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Person Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Powell was born August 19, 1935 to the late William and Elizabeth Powell in Robeson Co., NC. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church. Mr. Powell loved talking to people and enjoyed farming, especially his collard greens. He never met a stranger. Mr. Powell will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Powell is preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth Powell; brother, William Powell.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Barbara Powell; daughter, Allison Bowers (Gary); son, John Powell (Robin); grandchildren, Christopher Bowers (Carrie), Jacob Bowers (Erika), Makayla Powell and Owen Powell; great-grandchildren, Isac Bowers, Allen Bowers, Harper Bowers.

Pallbearers will be John Powell, Christopher Bowers, Jacob Bowers, Owen Powell, DL Page and Glen Collins.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2020 at Gorman Baptist Church. A visitation will be held an hour prior, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Gorman Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Craig Phelps. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Gorman Baptist Church, 3315 E Geer St, Durham, NC 27704.

Hudson Funeral Home will be observing social distancing for visitation as well as the funeral service, and asks everyone in attendance to wear a mask when entering the building.
