Ruth P. Ward

DURHAM Mrs. Ruth Frances Perkins Ward, 82, a former resident of Durham, died on Friday, August 1, 2014. Mrs. Ward had been living in Dobson, NC.
She was born in Surry County to the late Charlie T. Perkins and Lillie Bell Hemmings Perkins. She retired after 36 years from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. She was a member of Copeland Baptist Church in Dobson and a former member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Durham. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Horace Ward, Sr.; one brother, John Perkins and four sisters, Marie Hicks, June Moore, Lois Howerton and Mamie Hill
She is survived by her son, William H. “Chip” Ward (Melody Cameron) of Hillsborough; two daughters, Jennifer Creasman (Darrell) of Gastonia and Betty Alexander (David) of Siler City; brother, Charles Perkins of Dobson and grandson, Chris Haskins (Nikki Chanda) of Charlotte.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens. Rev. Hugh O’Shields will officiate.
