James “Scrappy” Barnett

June 28, 1941 — May 23, 2015

 DURHAM Mr. James  “Scrappy” Barnett, 73, of 4901 Holder Road, died on Saturday, May 23, 2015.

Mr. Barnett was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late James Clifton Barnett and Louise Medlin Barnett. He owned Barnett’s Backhoe Service.  He was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

 He is survived by his wife, Esther Jacobs Barnett; three sons, Ray Jones and wife, Marilen, John Wayne Jones and wife, Agustina and Ricky Jones and wife, Lori all of Durham; three daughters, Joann Dunn and husband, Rickie of Timberlake, Gail Holder and husband, Steve of Durham and Madge Bradley and husband, Larry of Clayton; two brothers, Earl Barnett of Creedmoor and Johnny Barnett of Wilton; two sisters, Mary Barnett of Pittsboro and Janie Scott of Butner; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Pastor Ray Smith and Rev. Don Westbrook will officiate. Pallbearers will be Steven Holder, Adam Holder, Derek Holder, Patrick Dunn, Jonathan Bradley, Justess Jones, Brian Jones and Gregory Jones. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4901 Holder Road. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences may be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
