Dan Calvin Critcher, Sr.

DURHAM Mr. Dan Calvin Critcher, Sr.,73, of Durham, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.

Mr. Critcher was born in Granville County to the late Walter Meadows Critcher, Sr. and Annie Leigh Eakes Critcher. He served in the U. S Marine Corp Reserve and was Honorable Discharged in 1968.  He served as Grand Master of the York Rites of North Carolina; member of the Durham York Rite; member of University Masonic Lodge No. 408; member of Eno Masonic Lodge and Charter Member of Mosaic Lodge; Charter Member, Amran Shrine Temple ; Knight Crusader of the Cross 1998; Member of Scottish Rite ,Valley of Raleigh.

He retired from Litho Industries, Inc. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class and Laymen League. He was a former employee of Hudson Funeral Home.  Mr. Critcher was a member of Bethesda Ruritan Club and was Past President. He was preceded in death by his sister, Annie Doris Critcher and brothers, Walter Meadows Critcher, Jr. (Billy) and Robert Macon Critcher.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Ellis Critcher; son Dan C. Critcher, Jr. and fiancée, Emily Serra of Mebane; two daughters, Yvonne Baker and husband, Don of Durham, Paula Adams and husband, Andy of Durham; two brothers, Howard Critcher of Raleigh and James Critcher of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren, Michael Adams, Trey Baker, Clinton Baker, Alyson Critcher, Spencer Critcher and loveable side-kick “Glossy” his dog.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Forehand. Burial with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be in the Mitchell Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
