Ennis Ray Lowery
Ennis Ray Lowery, 67, of Durham died Monday, March 10 at Durham Regional Hospital with his wife and daughter by his side.
Ennis grew up in Person County, the son of Jolliff and Bessie Lowery, and was a member of High View Baptist Church. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in Germany for three years.
He was employed for twenty years as credit manager at Pritchard Paint and Glass.
Ennis brought love and laughter to all of the people around him throughout his life. He maintained close relationships with distant family members and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Ennis loved to travel, especially to the mountains and the beach. He also loved to create things with his hands in his workshop and work outside in his garden.
Ennis is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Sophie Smith Lowery; a daughter, Jennifer Lowery Martin and her husband, Rodney Martin, of Durham; one grandson, Charles Bradford Martin; four sisters, Katrine Porterfield of Durham, Hazel Service of Toccoa, Georgia, Alice Hakim of Novato, California, twin sister Eunice Belcher of Raleigh; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Lowery of Person County; three sisters, Emily Oliver of Laurinburg, Edna Gillis of Butner, and Selma Jones of Durham.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 133 Robbins Road, Durham. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Hudson Funeral Home in Durham.
